The area around Vale das Cúpulas is hilly with forests and wetland. There are lots of possibilities for hiking, mountain biking, canoeing/kayaking, fishing. There are also various river beaches and places for swimming and barbecuing in the ares.
Hiking is possible straight from the Vale das Cúpulas terrain where you can walk straight into the forests and hills where you can enjoy the overwhelming nature. There are very little tourists and it is possible to walk through the endless forests and hills with beautiful views and authentic villages.
- It is possible to walk to the river Zezere and back, a hiking route of 9km
There are also hiking routes where you need transportation to get to the starting point:
Fragas de São Simão at 12 km from Vale das Cúpulas has a firm 5.1km/2.5 hours hiking trail with lots of climbs. Afterwards a refreshing dip into the river is the reward.
In Graca at 7 km from Vale das Cúpulas there is a marked hiking trail of about 3 hours. The trail is marked with yellow signposts.
In Mosteiro at 18 km from Vale das Cúpulas there is a 6km marked trail which takes roughly one hour to complete.
Straight from the Vale das Cúpulas terrain you can ride the dirt roads to the river Zezere.
Near Graca there is not only a marked hiking trail. It is also possible to ride this trail with the mountain bike.
- In Voz de Alge at 4 km from Vale das Cúpulas you can rent canoes and make trips on the river Zezere.
- Multi-day canoe trips are provided by Tipi Walk.
In the surrounding of Vale das Cúpulas lie various river beaches like Ana de aviz and Fragas de s. Simão with various facilities like restaurants, toilets and showers.
At the river Zezere and Alge are also swimming possibilities.
Roughly 18km away from Vale das Cúpulas lies a tropical swimming pool named Praia das Rocas in the town of Castanheira de Pera
There are two areas you can do mountaineering. The first is at the village Cercal at a roughly 30 min drive from Vale das Cúpulas. The second at Casal de S. Simão. Combined these two areas have about 40 climbing routes.
